Applause: Some of our Favorites

I recently had an opportunity to enjoy one of my all-time favorite pastries, Whimsical Whisk’s “Chocolate Stud.”  The portion’s generous size and decadent richness forced me to bring half of the serving home, where I shared it with my husband. For the record, when he eats, he is a man on a mission. His primary objective is to eat something heart-healthy (he is a cardiologist) that will fuel him for the daily activities that demand his time, concentration, and energy.  Thus he often misses the subtle nuances of the ingredients, flavors and textures of what he is eating.

He’s not much of a dessert kind of guy, so it surprised me when he took me up on my offer of the remainder of my Chocolate Stud. He took a bite, chewed and swallowed it and said, “It melts in your mouth,” and proceeded to devour the remainder with gusto.  If you knew my husband, you would appreciate that this is the highest of accolades for Whimsical Whisk’s “Chocolate Stud.” I have been cooking and baking for this man for more decades than I care to acknowledge, and the most I ever got in the way of a commentary was “this is good,” and I am (for the record) a good cook.  Never once has he said of anything I baked, “this melts in your mouth.” Nor have I ever seen him light up while eating a dessert as he did when he finished off the “Chocolate Stud” I shared with him. My husband is a man of few words, and his comment says it all as to that amazing confection, the Chocolate Stud.  Pat K.

My wife will attest to the fact that I am generally only mildly aware and often unappreciative of the quality and characteristics of what I eat. That was not the case when I had an opportunity to enjoy the remainder of a Whimsical Whisk Chocolate Stud. Quite simply, it melts in your mouth. I don’t know what Clare Welage’s secret is, but I wish that she’d share it with my wife!  Phil- husband to Pat K.

Hi Clare,  Joe’s (my husband’s parents) owned a bakery in Chicago. His father was a pastry chef, so he’s (I’ll say it!) snobbish about baked goods. He claims he can smell artificial flavorings and ingredients a mile away. He absolutely flipped over your brownies and blueberry flats and chocolate studs. He’s been watching his weight and he literally said “You can’t buy things that are so good! I can’t resist!”  Max loved the chocolate studs - he said they were like pudding. I don’t know if this is a cardinal pastry sin but we warmed them in the microwave then munched away! Delish.  Thank you ! Amy

Clare,  oh my gosh gosh gosh!!! rave rave rave reviews!! all were in monkey heaven on the first bite!! and the surprise middle was to die for!!  We hope the photographer captured them all lined up in the jungle….as well as getting the shots of lane eating his too!!  They tasted amazing…and i cannot get over the art work that went into each individual monkey!! We are all in AWE on you and so thankful as well!!! Thank you doesn’t even come close! i know you went way out of your way for us, and we are so appreciative!! Lane reached a new level of taste bud pleasure….to say the least, he was amazed…and again, i’m hoping the pictures do the experience of watching this justice. Thank you so very much!!!!!!

Dear Clare, Your company came highly recommended from one of our friends.  Normally we call on Harry & David  or order popcorn tins for our clients but this year we wanted to show our appreciation and really send a nice thank you to some of our special clients and customers.  So, with a little encouragement we thought we would give you a try.  I have to tell you that within hours of the delivery we received calls from clients, literally drooling and “wow-ing” over the contents.  In all my years of business, I have never received that kind of response from clients over a gift box of treats.  I am confident that those contents mended some relationships, created new ones, and the message we wanted to send- accomplished.  We are so glad to have found you, really enjoyed working with you, and look forward to doing more business with The Whimsical Whisk.  Many Many Thanks.  Dan, George, Linda, Kelly and Amy

Good Morning Clare~ Your cookies were such a hit at the bridal shower yesterday. The girls were actually perplexed as to which one they should choose. Some picked one up and then changed there mind and choose another one. Not surprised, all the cookies were fun and cute. I thank you again for making each one look special, it made the shower unique. Clare, Where on earth do I begin and I’ll try to keep it short. The cookies you did for my husband moved him to tears.  He just couldn’t believe that someone would put in that kind of detail just for him.  Your golf cookies and bags were the hit of the party.  Grown men crowded around the table like little boys examining each cookie..and get this those who even got a cookie either ran to lock it into their car or tucked the cookie into their shirt pocket for safe keeping. Weeks later as I write, I am still getting calls about the cookies. Thank you for making his birthday one to truly remember.  Second, the Military Medals and flags you did to honor my uncle were…well, brought tears to our eyes.  My uncle was speechless. He held onto the box about as tightly as he did the American Flag. After the ceremony, he turned and handed the actual medals to his son and said that he wanted to take the cookie medals and flags to show everyone at church.  Thank you thank you….Amazing talent. Dear Clare,  I am cousin to DS and just had to let you know how incredibly impressed we were with the use of such a beautiful god-given talent!  To be able to bake such a delicious cookie is awesome, but then to put your artistic hand and personalization to each of them - I just have to say, blows my mind!!!  WOW!.  What a fun addition to the incredible day we spent honoring my dad.  -Again, can’t say enough! Dear Clare, did you know that people who get your treats refuse to share them? There are a lot of products out on the market today promising they are this, made with that, taste like, make you feel….that when we meet someone professing something similiar, we take it with a grain of salt.  So, after much talk thought we would send your product to some of our closest foodie-friends for their opinion.  Much to our surprise 4 of our friends already knew about you, had your product at an event, and couldn’t wait to rip the box open and sink their teeth into one of your pastries or brownies. We got several calls later from the spouse complaining that their wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, even husband refused to share, not even willing to give a tiny taste and then hid their favorites leaving only the ribbon behind…….always always a good sign of a great product. Hi Clare!  I’ve been meaning to email you all holiday…  YUM!!!!  Every single cookie looked beautiful and tasted scrumptious.  I can’t even pick a favorite because each kind was so special.  We’re all kind of ‘foodies’ in my family - one brother owns his own catering co. in S.F., another brother manages another country club here in Indy, my nephew goes to culinary school…  When I put out your cookies, they all hovered and savored…. Clare- I have tried many cupcakes from local bakeries and they pale compared to yours.  There IS an enormous difference between a freshly made product made with the real ingredients than the cheap stuff- taste taste taste.  Your chocolate cupcakes were- just heavenly.  Thank you…..I’ll never settle for that other stuff again!   Erin

Hi Clare! Thank you for delivering the cupcakes to my mom this morning! I called her just before I boarded the plane and she went on and on about the cupcakes and you. Clare, I’ll never look at a number the same way. The cookies you did for my son’s first birthday- stunning..and just so darn cute at the same time. Your suggestion to do cookies instead of cake was right-on. Truthfully, while I think cakes are fun, you were  right I wouldn’t have wanted my child to eat that stuff either BUT they certainly enjoyed every bite of the cookies. Clare, Every birthday we have cake.  Every year there is always a dilemma as to what cake, from where, who, what kind etc. etc. Cake for me eventually became boring and non-eventful. I was at Penrod this summer and heard someone ooohh and ahhh over a brownie to such an extent that I wanted that brownie too.  We bought the Rocky Mountain.  OMGod!  and I mean OMGod- heavenly…gift to the soul.   My mom order some for my birthday this year and we warmed them slightly and topped them off with ice cream- wow!  Thank you for bringing life back to birthdays.
